I have an 00 4.0 with a NP242. Over the winter my t case started giving me issues with engageing. Sounded like something was slipping and grinding, so after disengaging the t case and re-engaging it, it would work. Then I realized I had a t case leak, filled it up and the problem disapeared for about a month. Now my t-case POPS out of 4low on its own. It wasnt engaging up a hill properly, when I finally got it to engage I drove less than 20ft and heard a loud pop and it disengaged on it own and I could not get it to reengage. I have not tried to reengage it since.

So how do I diagnose my issue? And the most important question... is my t case toast?

I have an NP242, here goes.

Do you have a transfer case drop? Does it engage in 4 Full Time and 4 Part Time?

 

I had the same issues with 4 high and part time as far as grinding goes, except they havent popped out of 4x4 yet.. And no t case drop
