Default Np-231 Transfer case grinding

Hey Guys,

Not sure how this grinding started however initially it was a loud popping and thuds coming from under the vehicle, though it was maybe bad cv axles, but decided to start changing u joints instead hoping that was the issue and it was much cheaper, however that was not the issue at all. I removed the front drive shaft to help try and isolate the issue, then that thudding became a nasty grinding sound. Tonight I used my phone to record a video of what was going on under my vehicle and whats happening is

The transfer case is randomly trying to engage the 4WD. I can clearly see on the video the front driveline connection spinning when the grinding occurs, transmission fluid is full as well as the transfer case is topped off on fluids as well. any ideas what could cause it to try and put itself in 4WD????

It's possible the linkage is out of adjustment. Have someone shift it while you are underneath watching it
