Now looking at a 1990.. would like some info
Hey guys. Posted up here a few weeks ago when I was looking at a 2001. I passed on it 1 because it was priced too high and 2 because I had some concerns about the truck that the majority here made me feel I couldn't talk the guy down enough to make the purchase worth it. I've since realized I really don't want to spend that much money on a Jeep right now. I'd like to get out under 2k and have a nice, reliable truck to show for it.
So now I'm most likely going to go look at a 1990 4x4, 2 door Cherokee tomorrow. I know a lot of the early Cherokees had cooling problems so I'll be watching that closely. I've heard the dimensions of the 2 doors are the same as the 4 door. I need the cargo capacity so just wanted to verify. Is there any things in particular I should be cautious about for the 1990 model?
BTW, it's got 160k on it, so miles are still pretty low for the year. I'll know more if I go look at it.
Thanks!
Kirk

check the air box for blow by (there will be lots of oil in the air filter) my 90 has 230.000 it runs great does not burn oil. I converted to an open system because of overheating issues.

hey,
i just bought a 93 2 door and am thoroughly impressed with it. all it needed was an alternator. that and some tires and it runs great! no over heating problems or leaking. that said :warning! nearly all 2 door cherokees will need the doors welded. they use the same hinges as the 4 door and the hinges cant take the weight. mine and many others have the doors nearly falling off! not a hard fix though and 2 doors just look good.

One more thing, ad says it has a 2 inch lift. When I emailed for more details I was told the Jeep needed an alignment (pulls to right). The combination of those two things scares me a bit. My fear is that an alignment won't fix the issue. I don't know if that's totally unfounded on my part (Jeeps are totally new to me) or not.

if he lifted it and never set alignment then yea it would prob pull one way or other...remmber.. a 1990 jeep is 20 years old.. you need to make sure you have money to put in it... regardless of what the owner says..If you have a set budget... you need to spend 1/2 -2/3 on the jeep.. at the most..keep rest for repairs...just my 2 cent... but used things need fixing ..

The cooling is definitely a problem. I ended up converting mine to an open system and I still have some issues with it. And as was stated earlier check the air filter for blow by.
