well i swapped in a gauge cluster and the appropriate sending units and i had low oil pressure and decided to yank off the pan and see what the pickup looked like. yup full of sludge. im glad i did this. i also took the valve cover off and the head had a bit of sludge build up too. 162,000 miles worth of poor maintenance. i pulled the rear main cap off to replace the seal and the bearing looks really good for the mileage and apparent lack of maintenance.

if you plan on cleaning the top of the motor use a shop vac to suck up all the chunks do not let them fall in the motor, while having the pan off do a pump and pick up

yea thats what i did i got some heater hose and duct taped it into the end. works awsome. its the same setup i use when de-sludgeing vw engines. when i put it back together im gonna use rotella deisel oil and run it for awhile then change it, thats always worked well too. i use rotella in my old subaru too. but im a stickler for 3000 mile lofs. i guess its not goog to leave it in there too long.

yea 10w 30. its a fleet approved all engine oil. its got allot of detergents in it. your not supposed to leave it in for like 5000 miles, ive heard the detergents can mess with bearings and such. just what ive heard im no oil expert or nothin. i just fix em.
oh btw purple power works pretty darn good. my solvent tank is due for a change so i picked some up at the hardware store and soaked everything in a big tub. worked it in with a wire brush and let the rain wash it out. looks nice now.
