Hi, my new cherokee is being a little funny. I engaded it in part time 4x4, and it will not come out. I can move the linkage on the transfercase to nuetral (which works) but as soon as I go 2wd it is still part time. I am really confused. If I shut it off for a good 2 hours and go for a drive, its 2wd again. What the heck is going on???

put it in 2wd and try going into reverse and back up a few feet, then put it into drive and drive forward a few feet. Do that till the light goes off and you will feel it go out of 4wd. Also, slowly shift it from drive to reverse and pause at nuetral. thats what I do when my 4wd wont go off and I always get it to come out of 4wd.

if your light stays on try cleaning the switch (part time switch).
use the write up to identify the switch.
