Default Noob, that needs advice on a lift kit and shocks

Hello all,

I recently ran into some extra cash and wanna give my jeep a more aggressive look. My shocks need replacing and im about to install new breaks so i figured I would give it a little lift as well.

So Im looking for advice.

I as thinking either

1) a 2 inch coil spacer budget booster from rustys

2) a 3 inch lift from tuff country

3) possibly 2-3 inch from rubicon

I have heard the shocks that come with kits are not that great so i dont mind upgrading.

shock wise i was thinking the nicer sets of rubicons or maybe bilstein

I dont mine paying extra if they are worth it, but i dont want to be paying just for the name.

I need new tires as well, me personally i like the 245/75/16 i have now (size wise) Im not sure what the next option would be height wise. I dont think i wanna go with 31's or anything because i dont want the big heavy tires that will kill my mpg, but i really know nothing of the subject.

And do you have any recomendations on brand of tire (good looking tires that are rather affordable.

Im open to all opinions/advice.
(If it helps)
im looking to spend maybe 300-600 on lift/shocks and would love to keep the tires as cheap as possible >$500 is my target.

your input would be greatly appreciated

If there is any other upgrades you think might be worthy, please let me know

It helps to know the year.As for tires you"d be better off trying e-bay at that budget.I'm not trying to be smart.Carparts.com has a 3in RC lift with coils, shocks,AAL and all hardware for $210 shipped.Thats the one I have.I didn't use the AAL though, instead I built a bastard pack.AALs don't last.S-10 leaves from the jy for $40.I'm sure someone else will ring in for ya.If you get vibes after the lift then do a tc drop.

If you go 2 inches, you don't run into as many problems with vibrations, and hence dont have to spend as much cash fixing other things like transfercase drops and brake line extensions. The 2 inch lift I put on my 98 definitely makes mine stand out next to a stock, and still allows for some nicer tires... up to a 31. The Krager black 8 rims, with a little extra backspacing also makes Cherokees look cool.

My advice, when you click on peoples listing/avatar, you usually get a listing of what they have, and mostly good pictures. You can even PM, or private message someone if you like their look to ask mmore questions.
Look at the picts, take your time shopping around, and have fun building.

It's about the journey, not the destination.

I have the 3' Rough Country lift, came with shocks that arnt too bad. It was $370? or somewhere around that i believe. Try checking local shops for tires. They may be able to get you a good deal on an off brand tire. Mine are some crazy brand, but look really meaty and have lasted over a year without bad wear, only paid $60 a tire... They actually came from a VW shop, crazy I know! And they are a R or P something size, not a regular 31" but close to it, but like i said, they work dandy!

In my experience, unless you are goinfg to be abusing the tires or using them for extreme applications(judging by your lift I wouldnt think so) then they will work fine. I've had both and for DD and mild trail use the off brands are ok.

If you can get name brand tires at a good price, go for it! If i had the money for them I would. But soo far soo good with my cheapies... Plus I knew someone who ran them before me, so I knew I would get pretty good mileage outta them. Good Luck! =)
