I picked up (what I was told was) an XJ Gas Tank Skid Plate and TC Skid Plate recently. I was wondering if anyone has any pictures of theirs installed, or any tips. I'm assuming I will need to pull the exhaust heat shield and hanger, but what do I use to bolt it to the frame?

I tried the search but came up with nothing. Any help is appreciated!

after a bit of sandpaper on my angle grinder, marine clean, and some POR15 (TransCase Skid Plate pictured also)

 

does anyone have a picture of one of these installed?

 

I don't have any pics of mine. If your rig didn't come with a tow package, your going to need the nut strips that go inside the unit body frame rail. I believe you can pick em up new from JRC for about $30. Hope that helps.

 

I don't see them pictured and you didnt' mention, did you get the "nut strip plates" with the skid? Or if the vehicle came with a factory hitch all the mounting hardware you need should be there.

yeah, no. I bought them impulsively on craigslist without much forethought. He said it would fit my 2000 XJ, so I picked them up. No nut strips, but he did include a tow hook that he said originally was mounted with the skid plate...

 

When I bought my 01 it came with a skid plate and the hook your talking about. I installed a hitch I picked up at the JY and was no longer able to use it. Since mine already had the skid plate all hardware to install the hitch was already there. If you want to install a hitch, this is the time to do it. I picked mine up for $17 on a 1/2 off day

 

I found a hitch on craigslist I'm going to pick it up this weekend. I also ordered the bolt strips from JCR. Hopefully this will all work and I'll have everything installed this weekend!

Where does the hook mount up? Which side and you don't have any pics do you? I can't get it to line up with the skid plate holes, but maybe I'm just looking at it wrong...

 

i cannot figure out where this tow hook is supposed to mount.

I'm thinking maybe its not for an XJ...? does anyone have a pic of a factory tow hook installed?

 

I dont have a pic cause I took it off, after installing the hitch there is no need for it anymore(it went on the driver side).

 

Take a look at my build thread to see mine... My mounting tabs were a bit different, they did not go back quite as far. Get ready for some fun.
