noisey jeep and a/c question
Haven't really gotten a clear answer on either. I have a 89 jeep cherokee 4.0 auto. Previous owner pulled out everything on the a/c system foreword of the firewall. Can i pull a compressor and all the lines from a newer jeep cherokee? Along with a new dryer/accumulator, or should i just buy all new parts made for the 89 and fill with r-132a?(or pull all the parts if i can find an 89)
Was also wondering if 96+ cherokee's are any quieter then the older ones? I can't decide if i want to give up on my 89 and start over with a newer one. I have a lot of second skin sound proofing and closed cell foam and i still get around 80 decibels at 25mph. Ill test on the freeway after i get my outer window seals since i think those let in a lot of noise.
omgsh i know the jeep isn't supposed to be quiet, thats not what I'm asking
thanks for any help!

I check part numbers on Autozone site if they are the same for different models.
the only reason I would consider later model is because of airbags. I believe drivers was installed since 93.

I'd be careful installing different year parts. Take time to research them before you possibly waste money. Often, there are significant engineering differences from year to year and they affect fit of parts. While it is entirely possible, if not probable, that '90s parts would operate in your '89. they may well not fit properly without significant modification of existing mounts or substituting newer brackets, etc. to make them fit properly. I wouldn't give up on the idea, as it sounds like something I'd do (I consider myself the king of McGyvering), but take time to see what you are getting into first and don't be afraid to seek professional help if need be.
It's quite likely that if you end up doing the newer conversion, it will take everything to do it, not just a compressor.
One site that I've used for a long time to compare both part specs and price is Rock Auto's web site (www.rockauto.com). It is a well set up site to reference and research car parts and is easy to navigate through.
As to quiet, I cannot see how your '89 would necessarily be that much noisier than my '98. Cherokees have never exactly been known to shelter occupants from road noise that well. Maybe the newer Grand Cherokees as they have become more upscale of late, but not XJs.

i forgot about rock auto and jeep air! there prices are pretty good. can probley get everything new for about 500 for the right year haha. definitely worth it in vegas!
thanks for the input! i change my mind everyday about selling it for a newer one but it won't bother me if there all that loud.
