Noise in rear
So I recently bought a 2000 Cherokee Limited, and it has this constant scraping type noise from the rear when off the gas at any speed. Stepping on the brakes does not change this. It seems much quieter when applying some throttle, but it's still there. Because of the change when applying throttle, I'm assuming it's drivetrain. Don't see that the rear u-joints are loose, but my pinion seal has an active leak going on. Any ideas?

I have noticed some chatter on turns as well, and the diff fluid was just changed. I question if friction modifier was added.(its a posi)
I'm fearing there is a rear-end or transfer case issue starting, but I can't seem to find anything wrong. Despite the pinion seal look, the bearing seems tight.

Xj's are front disk rear drum brakes. My guess for this noise would be the e brake cable scraping the inside of the drum. Very common on these vehicles. Pull the drums and check them out.

Yeah, not seeing an issue with the cables.
I'm finding it's only when letting off the gas, any throttle input and it's fine. I recently had a friend replace the pinion seal, and he suspects the rear backlash is a little too tight - the diff. looks new. He told me not to worry about it. Has anyone else experienced this?
