Hey everyone,

99 Cherokee, 4.0L.
Wouldn't start - gauges don't function.
I changed the CPS sensor and still the same condition.
Unplugged the CPS connector and the gauges still don't work.
Checked grounds - everything seems OK.
How do I check to be sure the computer is getting power??
Tried searching with little luck.

Been working on this all weekend with no progress
Any help will be greatly appreciated.

if not I can pull any wiring diagram you need later today...

 

Try unplugging (one by one) all of the 5 volt engine management sensors and then with each one of these, check to see if the NO BUS is gone.

Theoretically, anything along the computer bus can short and create this. Crank sensor is the most common, but don't rule out any of the other 5 volt sensors along this bus as well.

I just started my XJ and the "no bus" reading show up on my odo. My XJ kept running without any problems. The air bag and check engine lights were on and the fuel gauge did not work. I quickly turned it off and restarted it. It started up without any problem or idiot light. Any thoughts?

 

I should also add that I scanned with a OBD11 and it could not connect with the computer - any thoughts??
