Hey guys, I just bought a 88 Cherokee, it did have no lights at all except for one headlight that worked. I fixed the headlight issue with new headlights; and all the other lights came on when i replaced the bad fuses.

As it stands tonight all lights are working, except for the warning lights. I have dash lights around the speedo and gas gauge but the red lights that should come on for a few seconds when you crank the Jeep dont come on at all.

Any ideas?

 

check the bulbs in the cluster they could be blown or have been removed

 

forgot to mention that. I did look at the bulbs on the left side of the dash. THey appeared to be intact, i did not put a meter on them though.

I did not know if there was a single control borad that controls them or something.

I need to replace a bad altinator tomorrow and i plan to investigate the dash lights further.

I have an 88 as well that I just purchased and its doing the same thing. Did you find the problem?

 

Check the pull switch for the head lights. The contacts were bad in mine. After i replaced it the dash would light up. Also the pull switch rotates to dim the dash lights make sure it is not turned all the way down.

Other than a bad head light, bad pull switch and some old fuses; i have gotton all the lights working except for the warning lights that come on for a few seconds when you crank up.
