so my '95 cherokee was starting fine, then i took a trip to Fleet and Farm and i go out to my jeep, and no start, it wouldn't even click, so we tried to jump start it, cause that worked last time it wouldn't start or click... and jumping it didn't make it turn over, so we thought, maybe bad batter cell, we had the battery tested, only putting out 9V, so bad battery, so we put a new batter in it, and still, no turn over, no starter click, so we got it towed home, and came back from hunting, we opened the hood, and tried to turn it over, and nothing, so we looked at the relays, and there is a click coming from the starter relay, but nothing else... but here's the thing... the jeep has an $800 CompuStar alarm/remote start system... i heard that can have something to do with it, is this true?

Hey I just ran through kinda the same problem...Check all your grounds and make sure your battery terminal clamps are still good and wires because my clamps themselves were beaten up and grounds were all loose and thats what produced same scenario you have. Hope this helps

It sounds like it may be ether your NSS or starter.

I'm not to knowledgeable with the alarm systems but when you put the key in (with your new battery) does the dash light up and your lights work? This just verifies you're getting power from the battery to at least your accessories to rule that factor out. Next you can try putting the jeep in neutral, rather than trying to start it in park, which usually will let you know if it's your NSS causing your no start condition. Next like already mentioned check over all your leads to the starter and make sure your battery connections are tight. Finally, going old school you can take out your trusty hammer and have someone in the vehicle attempt to start it while you "help" the starter out a bit to check to make sure the wire brushes on the inside aren't sticking. Saftey first on that one.

this happened on my 1998 zj, it turned out the alarm turned on the VATS when i replaced the battery, i dont know if this applies, but try unlocking the door manualy from the out side of jeep. (driver side)
