Default No start -Fuel pump relay fast click?

Just put the motor back in my 94 XJ after replacing a broken piston. The motor ran fine before (other than it made a loud racket! lol ) Anyway, the motor is back in now, everything hooked up and trying to start it for the first time. As soon as I turn the key on, I can hear the fuel pump relay clicking at a fast pace (about 2 clicks per second). The motor cranks over but no start.... I'm stumped with why the relay is clicking like that. I did some searching but wasn't able to find anything so any help would be greatly appreciated.

it's clicking because it's not getting enough voltage. Double check your wiring/grounds and get your battery load tested.

dukie, thanks for the quick response. It did seem to be turning over slowly so I put a charger on it about 45min ago. Unfortunately, all I have is a trickle charger so this may have to wait until morning before I get it resolved.

Battery fully charged over night and load tested good but the relay is still clicking. It's faster than I thought too. As soon as I turn the key on, it clicks abt 4 x's per second. I double checked the grounds and they looked to all be grounded good. This thing is going to drive me crazy.

swap it with the a/c relay and see if that fixes it. If so replace the relay

OK, my own stupidity.... I missed the ground where EVERYTHING is grounded at the dipstick stud. The relay click is gone now and it tries to fire but still not starting. Back to the garage to see if I can get it figured out.
