Grinding noise from rear

Grinding noise from rear
I have been getting an internmitent grinding noise when I let off the gas from, without putting the clutch in, from the rear passenger area. It doesn't happen all the time. It sounds a lot like when you have snow in your wheel well and it is rubbing on the tires. But, since there has been no snow, I know that isn't it.
