Ok so I dropped the tank from my 98 sport today, and come to find out the damn locknut isnt even hand tight, theirs all types of dirt and etc inside of the rubber gasket and all, total **** show **** poor job whoever replaced this thing.
Ok so it seems that the lock nut doesnt want to go on the right way, One side always seems to be out of the thread. Any tricks to putting these things back on? We tried linig up the start of the threads and just doesnt wanna go on right, Could the lock nut be warped?? Any Idea's??? I may even buy a new lock nut if it isnt overly pricey.. Any help is appreciated thanks..

They can be a pain in the keester to be sure. I found that pushing down on the pump module while turning the ring as though you were removing it will get the threads to line up. You'll feel it easily enough, then turn the ring to secure it.
Patience is key.... and some light oil on the threads helps too.

I just dropped my tank today too to change out my fuel pump assembly. Didn't finish before it got dark, so hopefully I don't have this issue when putting my new pump assembly in tomorrow. I had enough trouble already today with removing the tank. I had to cut/drill one of the nuts in half that connects the hanger to the tank straps because either the manufacturer or previous owner stripped the thread on the nut to where it spins in place when Trying to loosen. What a pain that was.

suprisingly the tank was pretty clean for not even having the strainer on and having other debree coming in bc the lock nut wasnt on correct. just gotta take your time with the lock nut.. it only goes on one way. And dont try to put it on anyother way. I ordered my fuel pump assembly today.. Luckily the Jeep isnt my DD
