No start!

No start!
1990 jeep cherokee, replaced alternator and battery.. ran fine for a while and died. Tried to restart and would not restart. When open hood found orange wire going to little silver box with a bunch of wires connected to it melting and smoking. any ideas?

Describe EXACTLY where the box is located.
Need to start tracing back where these wires go to to figure out what it is.
Security system of some sort? Does it look to be "aftermarket"?
