I bought another jeep. this one is a 94 cherokee sport, 2-door. pretty cool lil rig. Anyways, The problem, Seller told me it just died while driving. He was told by his buddy, crank position sensor, replaced. I buy jeep, see the pump is removed from tank, test it on battery,it works. Forward to other problem, Jeep doesn't turn over with key, however it does turn over by jumping starter with screwdiver. Any ideas on either prob?
well for the first problem it could be you ran out of gas, which im assumin you didnt have but it could also be the battery could be goin out and startin to lose its hold on charge and cut off the engine...for the second problem...how well are your wires to the starter and how well are they?
you can try doing what my buddy does... yell a whole bunch.. kick it... then leave it for a while to think about what its done..
BAD jeep BAAAAD
okay enough fun... sounds to me like there is a short on the wiring to the key... turning it unlocks the steering wheel, which requires no elec....
just a thought
good luck

If the starter cranks the engine normal when you jump it, it appears good. Don't waste time and money on the starter. You need to check the starting circuit.
Check for battery voltage at the solenoid, small electrical terminal, with the key held to start. No power or low voltage means an electrical problem not a starter problem.
You have to start with a good battery, clean tight cables. Load test the battery to see if it is good. Any auto shop should be able to do this.
If it is automatic, move the shifter thru the gears and try starting in park and neutral. Could be the neutral start switch.
Many change the starter and still have a problem.
