no RPM !

Default no RPM !

Hi can anyone help I have a 95 cherokee 2.5 turbo diesel and the rev dial has stopped working allso when starting there is a loud diesel nock that after a few seconds goes away then the check engine light comes on .The vehicle then runs but still no rpm.
Any ideas

sounds more like a broken tach to me. But then I know nothing about diesel engines. If the engine runs, you have some RPM's going on. after all Revolutions Per Minute have to be present for an engine to run at all.

good point lizard runner i was thinking it may be a faulty crank sensor as it has happened o few times before

Hi and welcome to CF from Tj. The plug may have come loose behind the dash or its corroded. I would take it apart (Very Simple) and disconnect the plug and spry it with contact cleaner. About the knock, when was the oil changed last? ...Tj

Engine: Renault 2.1L Turbo Diesel

The tachometer used with the Renault 2.1L turbo diesel powered Cherokee XJ gets its input signal from the "W" or "Aux" blade type terminal on the Paris Rhone alternator used. You might want to check that connection.
