Default no reverse when cold

I recently bought a 91 XJ and when I bought it the reverse seemed to work fine I've been driving it for about a month and now whenever the engine is cold the transmission will not shift into reverse once I Drive it I can throw it in reverse and it works perfect every time any ideas would be appreciated this is baffling my mind

Curious, did you have it in neutral when you checked it?

somebody throw me some sort of information I can't be the first person to ever own a cherokee and have this problem I noticed this morning that when the Jeep is cold and it doesn't go into reverse that the reverse lights don't even come on does this mean it is definitely a linkage problem if anybody else is heard of this help me out here if not I'm going to have to just check the linkage if there's nothing wrong there just hope it doesn't get any worse

mileage?

if it was me.. and this is only me..

I would drop the pan.. swap the filter.. and do a few drain and refills to see if it improved..

dropping the pan also helps with having a look inside to see whats going on...

i tried doing some searching to come up with a better suggestion, but my knowledge is still lacking on these transmissions
