No power uphill!
1995 Cherokee 4.0 automatic 242xxx
I'm having an issue where the jeep just feels sluggish, not so much on flat ground just mainly going up hills it seems like it losses its power and won't downshift. I can let off the gas and wait a second, press it down again and it helps make it up. And when the rpms are low up a hill I can here a slight rattle from somewhere .
I have replaced the plugs, wires, distributor cap and rotor , oil changed regularly, new air filter.
I've seen other threads about maybe a clogged cat or o2 sensor but none of them have been resolved . It's driving me nuts lol

Had the same thing, it was the cat converter. I cut it off and all the power returned. My suggestion is to start it before it gets too hot, tap the cat with a hammer or pipe and see if the pattern of sound changes in the rattle. I eventually wound up replacing it from the up pipe to the tailpipe, so far so good.

I did not have a check engine light, I got stuck in a parking lot and drove it out by driving off the curb. It started that rattle and extreme loss of power. My exhaust had a hole patched in front of the muffler so since I confirmed where the rattle was, I cut it from in front of the cat and it sounded like a tank but all power returned. I definitely had the power loss climbing hills so the symptoms seems to be really similar hope it helps, post up what you find.

Okay I cut the cat off and it may have helped I'm not really sure. It still seems sluggish when climbing hills. Cleaned throttle body too and didn't help. What is the detent cable?
