There are (3) solenoids. S1 and S2 are shift solenoids and supposed to be off for 4th to work. S3 is the lockup solenoid.
The TPS is on the throttle body and the VSS is on the tailhousing of the trans. Both send signals to the TCU. The brake switch affects the lockup.
Did you check all (3) solenoids? Did you check the input and output voltages at the TPS?
PM me your email address and I'll send the AW4 manuals.

Now what do i do or check any help PLEASE. does shift manually with TCM unplugged. Thanks anybody

The fuse is in the power distribution box under the hood. Its fuse #21 mini 10amp(red) in my 1996.
If you pull the fuse or unplug the TCU, it won't shift electronically, so will never engage S3 for lockup.
Firedan, did you test S3? S1 and S2 are shift solenoids while S3 is the lockup solenoid.
You mention the scanner showing high voltages. Did you test the TPS? It has 3 leads and you can push a wire or paperclip into the back of the connector where the wires go in. One lead is 5v inpu, anther is output, and the other is ground. With the ignition on, but engine not running, use the paper clip and your VOM. Put your ground lead on the body ground or battery ground. Actually, now would be a good time to verify that your body ground is good.....should show less than 1/2 ohm resistance, or the same as the meter leads touching. Anyway, you should see 5-5.1v input and output on mine was .76v with the throttle closed and 3.8v wide open. Check and see what you have and report back.
You can shift manually, but you'll only have 1, 3 and OD. You'll never get 2nd unless you're in 1-2 and push the revs to 4500+ and then it will pressure shift.
When I was out for a drive today I tried to see when mine was shifting. Obviously the shift points varied depending upon how much throttle was applied. With light throttle I was generally getting 2nd at 20mph, 3rd at 30mph and 4th at 40mph and lockup at 45mph.

yes on my old TPS it show the exact voltage you are saying that is when the cel came on and that when i got code reader on and said high voltage on theTPS. as for S3 duh i forgot that one run thru how to check so i know i am doing rite. thank so much

7 pin connector beside trans dipstick, female end, row that accepts 4 pins has the 3 solenoids. Use VOM set to measure resistance, and check in relation to ground.
