Never heard of using tranny fluid, but I guess it makes sense.

I do this immediately on every used vehicle I buy, mostly because I'm a fan of Castrol, and lots of people use paraffin based oils. I like to clean them up first thing.

Couple dozen times I've done this without a problem, but you've got to be QUICK shutting the engine down. It heats up in a major hurry.

Glad you got it fixed!

Yeah, these motors are known to be noisy.

and yep the gauge was working before
Guess I assumed you knew that I was talking about removing the distributor and inserting the the screwdriver into the slot on the oil pump shaft and using your drill to spin the screwdriver.

Silly me for assuming.....

BTW,
A loose hose on the outside of the motor was not your problem.

You finally generated enough suction by running the motor long enough. Hope you didn't ruin your bearings.

Thank god I didnt have to do all that. When I took the oil pan off the sludge was about 3" thick. Cleaned everything. Its perdy now. The oil pressure is still holding, but it looks like I'll have to replace the rods. That knock is getting louder. Pulled of the plugs and it sounds like its a couple of them.

thanks again
