Okay as title states i have i guess say i am having a problem where i only have intermittent lock up in my transmission of my 98 jeep cherokee 4x4 i have already changed my tps twice, my s3 solenoid, brake light switch on pedal arm, also put on tranny cooler, and nss. My problem persists of only having lock up for a certain amount of time say this morning i drove to work about 12 miles from home. For the first six miles i have lock up then i stop at a light take off from there no lockup for about four miles, where i make another stop at a stop sign. Take off from there i have lockup for the last two miles. Just about happens like this every morning. My question is what is going on? any advice would help im sure thanks let me know.

Also thought i might add that after i put the tranny cooler on and flushed the radiator. I went on a roughly 180 mile trip where my lock up worked perfectly. Just thought this info might help.

Try draining and refilling the transfer case and trans mission. My '98 SE had the same problem: Intermittent lock-up. the problem went away when I changed the fluids.

I don't know what is going on, but it seems electronic. By draining and refilling, you've replaced about 1//2 of the fluid.
It would be interesting to see what voltage is going across the pin to S3 when lockup is occurring and when its not. That would be the wt/bk wire from the TCU to the S3, and it could be half-tapped at the TCU connector or at the 7 pin by the trans dipstick.
It could be the TCU. Have you ever unplugged the TCU and plugged it back in?
