no interior lights
I have all my gauge lights no problem but by the heater controls I cant see are there lights back there because its annoying

Yes there are. Depending on the year of your xj ( basing this off the 97+ xj ) the radio, hvac control center has a plastic trim piece on it that pulls off. Found that it works best to pull at bottom and work your way to the top. Once off you will be able to unbolt the hvac control's from their mounts and they should be on the back side of the controls. It may be different on yours then on mine. Hope this helps.
