Angry No dashboard lights (removed rear license plate light)

Recently I removed the rear light for the license plate, it was all cracked and looked like $hit, the light wouldn't work either. Anyways, now the dash lights do not light up, it is impossible to see what speed you're doing in the dark of night, so now I have to leave a flashlight on the dash to see how fast i'm going...

How can I get the dashboard up and running again without the factory license plate light setup, as they were placed in the trash and the trash was picked up already? Will I have to buy a new light assembly? That is not what I want, if I could get away without it that would be great.

Thanks in advance.

Just install another light socket to the wires temporarily until you can pick up the correct parts from the JY.

Although your dash and license lights are on the same circuit, removing the license light should not kill your dash lights. Did you cap off the hot wire to your license light after removing it? I'm wondering if you did'nt short out and blow the fuse to the circuit.

There was a cap on the two wires inside the light assembly when I took it apart, the old lighting setup was this:

The wires looked like they were not even connected to anything (old setup) and were just hanging under the side of the old light assembly. but the lights worked...

How i've got it now. No go.

If you connected the wires together you blew the fuse. Yhat's why you have no tail or dash lights. You need a light socket in there to complete the circuit I believe.

Mines a 98 and the fuse for that circuit is a 20A in the fuse box in the engine compartment. I learned this because a bad license light killed my park, tail, dash lights creating a similar problem to yours. let us know what you find.

Just went to the local Jeep dealership and replaced all the small fuses under the hood..total came out to be like 1.89.

But it didn't fix anything.. And when I got it back home I noticed someone f'd up my rear taillight. WTF!!!

Did that happen at the Dealers? That sucks. I'd at least try to get them to share their video with your insurance company. They should be at least partially liable since it happened on their property. They can go after the person that caused the damage, or their ins. co. IMO

You don't think the way you have the wires hanging in the breeze with no insulation could be the problem? You're joking, right? Never just twist wires together and leave bare wires out to ground out and cause problems.

Just remove the interior trim and the light is held on with nuts, I believe, that are attached to studs on the lights. Then remove the light, and remove the bulbs from the old light, and you can replace it yourself. Save yourself the money for something else. JMO
