Default No Crank issue: Not battery Need ideas

Ok to bring everyone that is gonna try and help me up to speed. I have an 89 Jeep Cherokee 4.0 base model that I had to change the headlight pull switch on it. well needless to say part replaced and new issue arises. so crisis averted. then get everything all tacked up and put back in place go and start it NO CRANK. recheck battery terminals to make sure they are on tight and have good connection. Then I tried to jump the Jeep thinking, "eh, what the heck cant hurt to try." NOTHING. NO CRANK. So am out of ideas... maybe it could be the transmission isn't registering that it is in park??? if this is an idea you would like to entertain please tell me what to check. Also my lights come on nice and bright that is how I know the battery is ok. One more thing the starter doesn't even engage as well so I went down and gave it a good tap and still NOTHING. Also checked fuses...

PLEASE HELP this is my only source of transportation so am gonna have to call a cab to and from work until I figure it out.

Head lights don't mean anything as far as the state of the battery. Load testing it with an actual high amp load is the proper way of checking the battery. If the voltage drops below 9.5 volts with a load of around 250amps, the battery is in need of replacement in most cases. You may have a neutral safety switch issue though. Do a search on cleaning the NSS.

i'd check the neutral safety switch. maybe try starting it in neutral and park both.

you could always cross the start posts with a screwdriver to rule it out. but uhhh I wouldn't suggest it.

Starting it neutral and then moving the gear shift from neutral to park then shut it off and then started it in park and it worked... See I think initially I was having the move the gear shift all the way down initially to work on the switch and then I think the neutral safety switch got stuck in a gear.

So I guess this weekend I am goin to have to clean the neutral safety switch.

right on. I had people like bimmerjeeper in mind while reading your response of "it worked"

which would be followed by a 7 paragraph post asking 42 questions. 41 of which not really applying to the issue at hand. then 11 pages of people bashing him.
