Just replaced my cat and it made a huge difference in power. It was not expensive and just makes sense.

The way I test them is with an IR thermometer. Drive around for a while so everything is fully warmed up before testing. If the cat is working the pipe should be hotter on the outlet of the cat, if the outlet is about the same temp it's probably dead, if the outlet is colder it's dead and clogged.

 

I saw that and it was a very very good suggestion. When it comes to Safety or Emission related items you should probably always check for a recall first.

For any still interested, I think I did end up just replacing the cat. Can’t remember though as I sold the Cherokee not long after that post.

 

I haven't ran one for years.
