No catalytic converter?

The way I test them is with an IR thermometer. Drive around for a while so everything is fully warmed up before testing. If the cat is working the pipe should be hotter on the outlet of the cat, if the outlet is about the same temp it's probably dead, if the outlet is colder it's dead and clogged.
There are many threads with this same question on here. 1) it is a bad idea to discuss this on the forum because it is illegal 2) a new converter is not terribly expensive and much cheaper than the fines you could incur for knowingly altering the converter or removing it.

Lol that was weird getting notifications from this 7 years later.
For any still interested, I think I did end up just replacing the cat. Can’t remember though as I sold the Cherokee not long after that post.
