This might be a stupid question, but did you verify that your drum brake shoes are adjusted properly, 90% of the time thats the problem.

Yes, I had them right from the beginning he said.

I used to work on golf carts (many moons ago) and they are all drum brakes and some of them are even hydraulic, just like automotive brakes. Most are mechanical and use a cable, like the ebrake cable though

ok guys, still no brakes. took it to a shop and they couldn't find out what was wrong. they want to replace my booster and master cylinder. i asked how they came up with that idea and they said the booster is original equipment so they wanted to start with that and the master since sometimes they are bad new. i said no, i am holding off because the booster tested fine according to the tests i found online for checking boosters.

i am bringing it home today and going to pull hte master and measure the push rod to make sure its pushing properly. maybe its that. after that, i have no idea. from there, its time to start looking for another cherokee, i guess, since my old school retired mechanic buddy and i couldn't figure it out and a shop couldn't figure it out.

anyone else got any ideas? it won't pass inspection so starting may 1, its a yard ornament to me.

ok, adjusted the rod in the master and now the brakes work pretty decent. i am going to readjust the rears since they aren't as strong as i like but now my pedal is at the correct height and the fronts try to lock. if i had stock tires they probably would lock up.

anyways, that turned out to be my problem, the rod from the booster to the master was misadjusted. for all you guys with the same trouble, check that sucker out. its really easy to adjust if you remove your washer fluid bottle. then you can just undo the two nuts and pull the master forward enough to adjust the rod without pulling the filter box and all the junk.

thee is a nut on the end of the rod. just hold the rod with pliers or something and twist hte nut with a wrench or more pliers.

So your problem is that the rod was adjusted too long? Is there only one rod, or is there two (one for the primary piston and one for the secondary)?
