Exclamation No 4x4!!!:(

Hi i have an 86 chief 2.8l. I did my clutch and slave cylinder and now my 4wheel wont engage. Trys to engage in 4hi but i cant even move in 4low. Worked before i went out on sat. Then got out there and not working. Any suggestions r helpful. If i but my locker on will this fix it or is in in my transfer case/linkage? Had a buddy mess with the linkage today but still same problem. I did lower my trans alittle to much for a quick second when i put my slave cylinder in. Could that have jumped some linkage off inside somewhere?

no all my vac lines are good. It has something to do with the transfer case linkage cuz it worked fine before i did that. It could b my vac motor? Havent tested that yet.

Well to test the linkage, you could disconnet it all. Climb under there and shift the tcase manually. If it pulls, then its your linkage out of adjustmant, if not then it will be your vac motor, or a line.

It will move in 4h but the gears grind cuz it wont engage all the way. And it will not move at all in 4L. But all worked fine till i did my clutch. And yes i put the linkage back on correct.

it sounds to me like it is out of adjustment then if it grinds in 4 high and wont engage in 4 low. or its possible that you bent the linkage when you engaged it. like 92mallcrawler said disconnect it from the linkage and engage it from under the jeep and see if it still grinds in 4 high or if 4 low engages

yeah. if its not moving at all that means your linkage is out of adjustment and the tcase is hanging up in N when you try to hit 4l

if its in just 4 low with the back tires then you have something wrong with the front locking in. its either in 4 low or not in 4 low. there is no 4 low for just the rear
