Default No 0331 casting marks on head

Hi
I recently bought a project XJ (97) and found it’s got a 00 or 01 motor in it. Today I pulled the valve cover to look for cracks or to see if it’s got a new head (I found where the block date is but have to wire wheel brush off the paint to read it) ok. So I go look for the marks I’ve been told I would find and saw neither I found a casting number NH2 and another that was 10. The mystery continues. I’ll try to post pics.

I'm sorry to be the bearer of bad news but it appears that's the crack-prone, original 00-01 cylinder head...

Thanks! Well I’m not losing coolant and there was nothing but oil on the rockers. Has good oil pressure and isn’t overheating. So I’ll cross that bridge when I come to it. I won’t drive it hard and I plan on setting up dual electric fans in it.

You're not doing yourself any favors by doing this. With the XJ radiator being so short, it's very hard to put together an electric fan configuration that performs as well as stock, let alone exceeds it.

Thanks. I had good results on my older XJ, but yeah this radiator is short. I’ll get a new clutch fan and scour the junk yards for a cowl
