Nitrous in a cherokee
I could see the need/want for n2o. I mean, who the hell doesn't want an extra 100hp at the flick of a switch?
But I also see where everyone else is coming from. The fuel pump will be overworked, so that'll need to be upgraded. The rest of the drivetrain will take some serious abuse, and for most of us, its already taking plenty.
I am, however, surprised by all those saying the motor can't handle it long. These motors are built fairly well from the factory, I figured they'd be able to handle it.

yes, these motors are strong but they cant handle the higher cylinder pressures. (think of oxy-acetylene in a cup and ignited)
I most likely eventually blow a head gasket, cause excessive blowby, kill the rings, maybe bend a rod, fry your bearings...

you should listen to someone who HAS actually used nitrous on an XJ
i ran a 120 shot on my 1990 renix for a little over a year
and ran a 75 shot on my 93 for a little bit before removing it
the 4.0 can handle, make sure your fuel system is up to par and compression is good

What happened after a year, and where is the truck/motor now?
Why'd you remove it?
I'm curious, honestly. Not trying to bust your *****. It sounds interesting, and a simple small bottle system wouldn't be difficult.

i let a friend drive it on the way home from the track one night. he decided to have some fun, and sprayed the 120 shot in 5th gear at about 45mph. there arent even to many built motors that can handle that.

decided to lift it and put bigger tires on it, since it was a 4wd. motor ran fine, and as far as i know (new owner) still runs fine
its fine, just there is alot of "information" being said in this thread that does not come from actual experience with nitrous, just here'say.
granted, im a little more experienced with nitrous than the average person. but its not rocket science, any one who puts in the research and effort to make there system last, can have many problem free years with nitrous

Just about any motor can handle it, but for how long?

Have fun killing your jeep and spending excessive amounts of money...

I was about to say something about drifting jeeps yesterday and now spraying them today, WTF? Isn't it supposed to be about jumping them (by accident) and breaking then fixing stuff??
