Default Newest issue: Brake lights work with keyless entry, but not with pedal

Replaced brake switch, tried a junk yard one and a new one. Still no brake lights. Checked all fuses and they were all good. There was a bad fuse in the aftermarket keyless brain, replaced that and got the lights to flash with the unluck feature. But they still do not come on with pedal. Any thoughts? Some one told me to check the grounds, what exactly do I check ?

Onetime, somewhat in desperation, I ran a wire right from my neg battery post to the socket that the bulb goes in to. Found my problem. The whole bed of that Toyota truck was not grounding. (pressing the brake was making the front running lights come on!)

the lights working from your keyless entry are your marker lights, not brake lights. Using a volt meter would be a big help.

Cherockee, you are correct it is the running lights that flash, not the tails. What exactly to I check with the meter?

DFlintstone, how did you correct the bad ground?

On that old Toyota work truck I drilled self tapping screws bed and cab and added a ground wire. (actually two). On your Jeep if you find grounding the socket to a good known ground solves it you will probably want to start tracing your ground wires and find and fix the fault.

With a meter you can both check continuity to ground, and check to see if you have voltage in a wire or at the socket.
