Default Newbie Question, asking the Pro's !!

Hi Guys, new to the site, love it.

I just purchased a 1996 Cherokee Sport, it's about 99% stock other than the 3" lift and aftermarket wheels and tires.

My question is just the other day I went to turn on my headlights and they will now..only work on Hi Beam. If I pull the switch back the brights go off and just the parking lights are on. As soon as I pull the level again, the high beam indicator comes on and the and now the lights work. And it is the high beams as ppl keep flashing me

My other question is my wipers will only work on low and high speed, when I turn the lever to the intermittment section, nothing. Is this the motor or something else.

I started thinking my lever may be bad as this too controls the hi beams...idk.

Thanks in advance for the help !!

Yes, dimmer switch is sure a possibility. The low beam filaments could also be burned out in both bulbs.

Pull back the turn leaved a few times

Back and fourth, could be bad wiring.
And check your bulbs for burn outs.
If its all within your panel it's probly a wiring derp

I tried pulling the switch back and forth a bunch of times, I didn't think the bulbs would both burn out at the sametime, but I'll surely check that when I get home.

The dash lights work fine, as I rotate the switch they dim and brighten with out issues..

Not the light switch on the lefts of your steering wheel. Your turn signal silly. That bar pull it back and pull it back again. Towards you. A couple times.

Your Factory Service Manual shows how to check that switch step by step.

Don't have one? GET ONE!

Should be a requirement before posting!

NOT Mitchell or other junk manuals, usually wrong!
Get a real one!

LOL..that is what I did, I tried turning the lights on and off a bunch of times with the actual switch ( pulling it in and out ), and....pulled back on the wiper/hi-beam/signal switch several times.

I do have a Chilton's manual on the vehicle, I just got the Jeep less than 2 weeks ago so the advice you all give about manuals ( and good ones ) will not go unheard..

Any ideas on the wipers...I noticed something under the dash on the drivers side, was a small silver box with what appears to be a sticker that say EXT-WIPER..at least that's what I think, most of the label is gone. Would this have anything to do with the intermittent issue ?

Thanks again for the tips on the lights..will be checking those out when I get home.

On a previous vehicle, I had no low beams. My wife suggested that maybe both lights burned out at the same time (what does she know?). After an hour of troubleshooting the wiring and switch I put a meter on both headlights...both low beams were burned out. It happens.

I've had it.happen too. The stock lights suck real bad so you may not.have even realized that one was out. And then the other finally went.
