Default Newbie needs help with rear axle noises

I'm new here and I've been searching but coming up with nothing. I have a dana 35 and when I take off from a stop and more so when I'm turning I've got a noise in the rear end. More like grinding sound. 1995 cherokee, first jeep and I've only had it about 4 months. Any suggestions are appreciated.

Could be the brakes or even a u joint or a lot of things.

Back end onto stands, trans in neutral, start turning things by hand to find the grind.
Is there lube in the diff?
Check and eliminate the ujoints and brakes 1st.
You may have to pull the tires and drums next. If it isn't external parts. Then your into the internals. Outer bearings, relatively easy. Inner bearings, more involved.
Google and read thru these forum threads to see the how 2's.

Okay, I checked the u-joints and they are good. Put it on jack stands and turned everything and couldn't feel or hear anything suspicious. Then checked for play in the bearings, good too. Took off tires and drums and all kinds of crap fell out of the brakes on both sides. Alot of dirt in there. But brakes look good. Going to put all that back together and see what happens now. Still might need to check dif fluid I imagine but will do that tomorrow. Will keep you posted.

That sounds like a good find. If a bunch of unwanted junk falls out, that is a good thing.
As long as the good parts are in there and functioning.
I've even hosed out the rear drums and brakes before after slow water crossings washed in a bunch of mud muck.
Probably should have mentioned it.
