Newbie needs help
If it's a 4WD Cherokee, then you don't need to disconnect anything.
Put the transfer case lever in the "N" Neutral position. This will disconnect the driveshafts from the rest of the powertrain......Then tow away.......
If you have a 2WD Cherokee, then yes, you'd better disconnect the driveshaft. Unbolt it from the rear axle, and tie it up good out of the way. Don't pull it out of the rear of the transmission, fluid will most likely spill out.......Then tow away.

Need to add to the above^^^. Make sure the t-case is in neutral and then put your auto trans in P or your standard trans in any forward gear. This is per the owner's manual and prevents the trans guts from turning due to hydraulic action from the t-case.
