Newbie low heat question on 1990 XJ
Sorry guys, but I have been searching for an hour and have not seen anyone with same scenerio as mine when it comes to low interior heat AND low engine temp.
My heat works on the inside, but does not get very hot inside. Only warm at best. The other issue is the temp gauge only gets up to maybe 1/4 of the gauge and does not go any higher. I have never seen temps in the 200 area. I replaced thermostat last summer, and have been driving this thing on and off ever since with no overheating or anything.
Is it possible for air to still be in there causing my problem? What would keep the engine temp from getting up there? I believe the thermostat I bought was around a 200 degree, cause I was looking for something warmer than the 180 degree OEM one. After experiencing low heat issues last winter.
Anyone have an idea? Think the thermostat I bought may be bad?

Did you replace it with a reputable one? Stant SuperStat, Failsafe or OEM from Mopar should be the only ones you use... 195 degrees. Might be stuck open. Just because it is new or recently replaced doesn't mean it isn't already bad or defective from the factory
Most people who have problems on the forums with no heat coming out of the vents can contribute it to engine heat because cabin heat is a byproduct of engine heat.

Any place that sells Stant should have what you need. Try Advanced, or Autozone, they should be able to help you out.

The Stant SuperStat is a great stat. As well as the factory stat from Jeep. I've had no failures or issues with either .
195 degrees for the 4.0
195 degrees for the 4.0
