I have never been a fan of the Durango. My uncle has an Explorer with 137k on the clock in Pennsylvania.

The 4.0 is a bullet proof motor. Basically, it is a gas version of a diesal engine. It runs forever. It might leak oil, but It will run no problem. You can expect a jeep that has followed the maintenance schedule to last atleast 200k miles. Not to mention the tranny behind it is equally bulletproof.

Overall, I believe that 99 was the best year. Definately go for a 96-99.

Xjs are very easy to work on and spare parts are easy to come by. (Thanks to the idiots of cash for clunkers)

Thanks again everyone, looking on Craigs list and man they must have sold a ton of Grand Cherokee's, must be 10:1 over the XJ's. The XJ are a little harder to come by.

Would there be any reason to go for the older style like a 96 as compared to a 98 or 99?
