Default New XJ owner with rust repair questions.

I recently purchased my first Cherokee, 1991 4.0L 5 speed 4x4. It runs and drives great, 118,000 miles. I paid $400 for it but only because of the amount of rust. It has inspection until July but it won't pass the way it is now without some work. The rust in the floors I will likely search for some sheet metal to do a quick repair for now (Until I can buy a decent welder and do it the right way) with rivets. The problem I have is I can't identify this area and if I can get a replacement panel or will I have to cut out one from another cherokee.

Thanks.

If anybody on here is from Schuykill co. Pa and has a welder they can help me with that would be awesome. (I figure there might be a few people on here since I've never been anywhere in the USA that has as many Jeeps as this county)

Ouch! Yay road salt...

The bulk of what's visible in that photo is the door sill. The door sill extends from the center of the rubber foam seal to the edge, where it meets up with the rocker. The stuff on the back is part of the fender or rear quarter panel.

You can find some new parts here: http://c2cfabrication.com/

Of course cutting the sections out of a donor is an option. If you get creative and don't care about looks you can just use sheet metal and fab your own.

As for help and welders check out the localized sub forum: https://www.cherokeeforum.com/f41/ I'm sure someone would be willing to give you a hand! Especially if you have an MJ as your name implies

I'll try to get better pictures later today. It seems like it extends past the rockers, but maybe adding some sheet metal will work, does the rocker replacement panel go all the way to weather seal?

Oooh nice

No the rocker runs from the edge of the sill (vertical) to the pinch seam underneath. Somtimes they don't even go that high up
