Default new xj owner...couple of questions

Hi all,

Just got an 01 cherokee limited last week. Now that I've gotten several of hours driving on it, I had a couple questions...

- the oil pressure sensor keeps fluctuating between ~35 and 80. It switches when I turn it off and back on. From some reading, it seems like it is the sensor, not a serious problem. Does that sound right?

- when I'm in drive or reverse and come to a complete stop, there is a pretty good rumbling coming from the back. As soon as I hit the gas it goes away. I'm not really sure what it is. Any ideas?

Thanks for any help. I look forward to spending time here now...

I would swap your sending unit out to fix the gauge issue. Not sure about the rumble tho.

Could the rumble be your exhaust? I know when mine is in drive and im at a stop when the engine is still cold the exhaust rattles against my gas tank skid. It sounds like a very deep rumble....could be something as simple as that. i Just ignore mine

I agree with Destination, its probably just the sending unit or a bad connection. These motors are known for issues with the sending unit.

If its not the exhaust rattling on something, it could be a skid plate rattling from being loose.

Does the grumbling sound like its coming from the drive line or does it sound like something else. ie do you feel it when you stop or just hear it?

I feel it as well as hear it. It rumbles, but intermittently. I'm not positive yet, but it seems like it starts and stops As the rpms increase or decrease. And when I stop idling and give it some gas, it stops immediately.

My electric fan makes a soft rumble but thats from the front of the jeep, im guessing its a loose exhaust heat shield or the exhaust is hanging agianst something. Could be that.
