You don't think there is need to be concerned with it already having an 1/2" of slack knowing the chain will stretch some. I'm sure it more than likely won't be much, I realize the computer does it's job in reading all the information Still I have a lot of money and a ton of time invested in this. I am debating on whether to order one from the dealership.

The gear drive is nice but a little overkill for me. I contacted moparpartsdicounted yesterday and they said they have never had this problem or heard of it happening. I say that most of the people that change out their timing sets don't worry about it because it is new and they assume it will be ok. In the end their probably right but I just want to be sure.
Thanks again and I appreciate all the posts and comments.

I just don't see that many sets being bad my self ive replaced many chains on older cars 1970 and under where chains moved a lot more than a 1/2 inch b4 replacing them a 1/2 play after would be tolerable . Newer chains don't really stretch like the older material did.

Question about the comment above, I'm currently tackling this as a HB replacement has trickled into replacing front crank seal and now timing chain (a lot of slack)... so here is my question
Do i really need to replace the gears? Can I just replace the chain? and maybe the dampener? since it broke of.
Feedback appreciated.

I can say that failure here is not at at all common for the 4.0

I am having the same problem. 2 new timing chain sets and they have as much slack as the old one. This is a 1991 cherokee, if you figure it out post what you did to correct it, or did you just run with it. I think i may just run what i have, however, I have'nt had this happen before.
