Hey all. About a year and a half ago I replaced my starter, and that one just failed as well. I got the same remanufactured starter from advance since it was still under warranty. I installed it, turned the key, and it made a horrible grinding noise. Tried again, it started fine. Next few times, it engaged then would grind without starting. I took it out, cleaned the surfaces, reinstalled, and same issue.

I swapped the starter out for a different one, same part #, but won't be able to install it until tomorrow and would like to plan ahead just in case the same thing happens. Anybody have any ideas what the issue might be? From what I saw the teeth on the flexplate looked perfectly fine.

I once went through 3 reman starters on my '85 2.5 before I got one that didn't screech. They all looked perfectly okay.

Buy your stuff from some where else.

Not Autozone, either.

New one works fine. Thank Jeebus. I guess quality control on remaned starters isn't too great.
