Just recently my Jeep has been making a new noise when I shift from park to reverse or drive or from drive to reverse or vice versa while sitting still with brakes applied. The sound almost sounds like a brake drum/shoe noise when a vehicle has set for a long time, but it happens with brakes fully applied and the vehicle doesn't move. I sort of leaning to motor/transmission mounts. Could/should I look for something else?
btw, the u-joints and yoke are fairly new.

 

Glazed brake shoes tend to make a creak when you are shifting like that, also check the bushings on the leaf springs for wear that allows movement.

 

thanks, will check that. The creaking does sound as if it comes from the rear wheel/axle area...appreciate the response..
