Default New parts and still have death wobble

Ok I put a fat bobs garage 3in lift, track bar relocator, 31x10.5's and some after market wheels on my 96 cherokee. Then I followed that up by an alignment.

Well I just started getting realy bad death wobble a few weeks ago. I noticed the upper and lower control arm bushings were pretty bad. So I replace both upper and lower control arms and bushings. Had my ball joints and tie rod ends checked and then another alignment after I installed my new parts. Well it is still doing it when I hit a bump.. I mean its bad, it feels like my whole front end is about to fall off and I have to come to a complete stop for it to go away.

So my question is what else do I do??????

Go back to the alignment shop and ask the alignment tech. if he adjusted just the toe. On most new cars toe is all that can be adjusted during an alignment. However, our XJs are older rigs and they provide the ability to adjust the caster as well. There are shims inside the frame mount of your lower control arms that their thickness allows caster to be adjusted. You adding your 3" lift spacers threw the caster out of proper alignment. So, your alignment guy can adjust your toe all day long and never get rid of your Death Wobble. He needs to adjust your Caster.

I know this because my son and I put a Fat Bob's Garage 3" lift on his 87 XJ. The lift is spacers in front and Add A Leafs in the rear, right?

The kit came with springs, shocks, add a leaf, and a track bar relocater. Ill call and ask if he just set the toe or if he adjusted the camber as well......

Camber is not adjustable on our D30s. Ask him about "Caster".

Could you post a pic of the trac bar "relocator" that came with the lift kit. I've never heard of such a thing. I'm curious what it looks like. I've only heard of getting an adjustable trac bar or in the case of a 3" or smaller lift, drilling a new hole beside the old hole in your OEM trac bar bracket to compensate for the lift.

Try to get your caster setting at about 6-7 degrees positive. And you say it happens after hitting a bump? Are you running a steering stabilizer? Your tires/axles are unsprung weight that is prone to vibration after hitting something, such as a bump/pothole etc...the front tires can tend to develope a severe side to side vibration after striking an object at speed, typically 40 mph and up. Tese vibrations or wobbles can be controlled with a good steering stabilizer most times.

Did I miss something or did no one mention the steering damper?
Most death wobbles are due to a weak, stock, or worn steering damper.

A lot of people will say that only hides the problem.

Yeah, you missed it. The guy right before you said steering stabilizer. Steering dampener...same thing.

And they are right! That's why they come from the factory with a Damper/Stabilizer.

Bought my XJ. GOt the death wobble on the drive home. Found a hole in the stabilizer thus rendering it completely useless. Replaced stabilizer (and all the other things that you already said were good.. plus a broken coil spring) and wobble is gone.

Thanks for the replies everyone. I checked a few things and noticed my track barbolt was a little loose. I fixed that and now its not as bad as it was, but its still there. So I will try the steering stabilizer next and see how that does.
