Question New Over Heating Problem

Just got new "95" XJ Sport about 3 weeks ago, had planned this weekend on changing oil, trans filter and fluid, and cleaning out throttle body. Have ran some sea foam cleaner through gas and trans to prep for fluid change. But today new problem has started despite running cool since i got it now today it decides to heat right up to the line shy of the red on the temp gauge. Prev owner said he had changed out water pump recently but unsure now. Only thing else i had done today was run some sea foam in the gas tank and direct into the top of the engine by pouring some into the rear intake on top of the engine.

Im new hear and really appreciate all the good info ive found searching here. Personally im not super mech or anything but these aren't rocket ships. But love the Jeep so far despite the rattles, smell, crappy mpg, lack of any aerodynamics, all around has more SOUL than any vehicle ive ever had!

have you done a radiator flush? good idea, also, welcome to the site! I love all the info I've gotten here as well.

And your damn straight! I love the XJ, just has SO much character IMO.

No havent done radiator flush, but can add it to list for sunday. Have been reading some of the other threads regarding overheating here, posb something to do with fan and the lower hose being spring loaded and how it should close off after engine heats up.

Just frustrated cause it seems to have just come out of left field after not over heating at all for the last few weeks

(lovin these smily faces)

Thanks for the advice will add info after sundays fixes.

I'll play devils advocate.....it's 16 yrs old, presume the PO did nothing maitenance wise. Entire cooling system (parts) can be replaced for less than $300.

Default ALL BETTA

Thanks to you both for the responses and advice.

But after a complete day on Sunday of flushing fluids and changing filters and cussin and wrenchin its all good and runnin smooth ( touch wood, cross fingers, say a prayer) it stays that way.

Many thanks to the advice found here on the forum, a trick on one of the threads about splicing in rubber tube on the transmission filler tube was a life saver.

But will keep workin on her as Ive come to learn it's a jeep there is always something to be fixed or made better!!!!
