So last week my check engine comes on and I threw codes 0700 0705 and didn't have reverse lights. I pulled my NSS, disassembled to clean and found the arm inside broken.

So I ordered a new NSS and installed, cleared my codes, and attempted to align it by putting the jeep in reverse and adjusting it until the lights come on. No dice. I've got it in a place where I can start in both neutral and park and I don't have any check engine light anymore, but still no lights.

I did check the fuses and nothing seemed obvious, checked the filaments in the bulbs (incase they blew for some odd reason) and they were good. I have no other issues - no lights out or anything - and the reverse lights WERE working before the check engine light.

Anyway, I'm at a loss. Thoughts? Ideas?

I read somewhere to check continuity from the switch or on the body side of the harness but thought it unlikely to be the problem and not really sure how to do that?

What do you guys think?

i know you said that you checked the bulbs, and they were good, but just for kicks, have you tried a new one?

I really hope you get a response jnance50, im having the same issue with my 98 XJ, and the bad thing is, Im nearing my state inspection, and if i dont fix the problem soon, i wont be able to cruise my XJ, legally anyway..........

Yes, did try a new bulb just to check.

And I know what you mean, me too - MA doesn't joke around with that stuff.

Fixed! Unplugged it and checked the harness connector - one of the pins had pushed right out and to the back side.
