New member new used toy to play with have fuel problem i think and some obd codes
Hi, 1st post 1st jeep. I picked up a new toy to play with today that sort of runs hoping some one might be able to help with where to start with current problem.I picked it up for $500 its a 1998 Jeep laredo wont start unless I use starter fluid or dump some fuel intake but once started it runs great but wont re start untill I do the same thing again. Previous owner has thrown $$ at it with parts before giving up and selling it to me. I get code PO 443 and code p1282. Where would you start and or whats your thoughts thanks

Break the start up process down and isolate the problem. Check all of your ignition.. Coil dist plugs, then make your way to the intake.. Could be idle control getting stuck, or tps.. Does it crank? How's the idle when you have it running?

Absolutely concentrate on that P1282.
That other code is related to the evap. emissions system and you can deal with that later.
Try swapping the fuel pump relay, located in the PDC (black box under the hood on the passenger side) with another relay. They are of the same part number, so it is perfectly safe to swap.
If you can start the engine with starting fluid, you have a problem with FUEL DELIVERY. Either fuel pump control electronics, wiring, or the fuel pump itself.
Good luck and let us know what you find!

relay could be stuck on and if that was the case the pump would run all the time. Check the relay first and no the pump isnt under the back seat but the pump on a cherokee is easy to get to
