New to me XJ - electrical gremlins?
So, I got a 98 XJ, it's already been lifted, rear end swapped to an 8.8 sitting on 35's, and I got it on a barter type situation. When I got it it ran terribly, I replaced the plugs, wires, cam sensor (just cause I was there), rotor, cap and crank sensor (actually had a code for that) and a new battery. Anyway after all that she runs like a top now. This thing was used as a trail rig and went to uwharrie a couple of times, so now I am trying to make it road legal. Now that the back story is out of the way, the electrical issues I'm having are no gauges and the ac compressor will only engage with the selector switch in the off position. So far I have redone the G108 grounds, even spliced in a new ground to the c1 and c2 connectors behind the cluster straight to the negative side of the battery, also added this connection to the G108 point. Disassembled and thoroughly cleaned the ground points on the engine block, ran new ground from block to firewall and ran a new ground from battery to fender, ground from battery to block is new as well, checked all the fuses and relays in cabin and in the junction block (actually took each one out and cleaned the fuse legs and sprayed the connections with electrical cleaner then checked continuity at each fuse after re-installation. The cluster passes the self diagnostic and I even swapped to a known working cluster - same results. Swapped to a known working climate control switch as well - with no change, I did test the pressure switches and the system has been properly filled with refrigerant and oil and the ac will work if i jump the compressor straight to the battery. After doing a bunch of searching in the forums, it seems like most folks have their gauges fixed after doing most of what I've already done. I'm kinda at a loss here, definitely seems like there is a short somewhere, but I'm not even sure where to start looking. Any guidance in that direction would be greatly appreciated.

Have you checked the relays and see if one is missing or not working and all fuses . and maybe it had a power lead cut out of it or maybe a bad ignition switch .
I have checked the relays and fuses, but I do have a whole box of new relays, I'll try swapping them out today and see if that helps. The ignition switch seems to work, definitely worth looking into, I had no idea it could cause weird issues like that. Definitely appreciate the input. If it helps the radio has been removed (wires are all folded over and tapped off properly) and the door wires have all been unplugged.
