Default New Looking for a Jeep Cherokee

Hi all,

I hope this is in the right section.

I am new to this forum and I am from Long Island New York. I am a surf fisherman and hunter and I am looking to buy a Jeep Cherokee for the beach and woods. There are many for sale, but being a non-mechanic I am not sure what to look for. There seems to be a huge variance in price and I don't know why from the adds.

Can anyone point me in the right direction for tips to find a good rig. I am looking or a 2000 or a 2001.

Thanks

97-99 were basically the same. 00-01 has a distriubutorless ignition system. Some people don't like the distributorless, which I'm not totally sure why. If you live somewhere it snows, I'd definitely check for rust, especially if they use salt on the roads. I have a 99 and I love it.

X2 on the 97-99 i have a 99 its sweet, anywho with the distributorless system, i remember reading something about a misfire issue, especially on cylinder #3 due to the injectors getting to hot and the gas vaporizing in them before it was injected...? Not 100% sure on that but i remember reading something on it a while ago

Means there is no distributor, instead they use sensors to fire coil packs that give the plugs juice instead of the distributor....

Ohh ic well you dont have distributorless ignition......but if you want more info on ignition systems do a search on google on it, im sure you will find something of interest that could explain better than I can

If you read posts, you will learn a lot about a ton of stuff, i was pretty unaware to jeeps and 4x4's when i got mine too, and learned a lot from just reading posts from here and there

I'll probably get flamed for this but...If you want a Jeep then you should just get a Wrangler, they are much more fun IMO...

I've always liked wranglers to be honest, but once I got my cherokee I like them both. Only thing about wranglers I like more is the top and doors come off easy. (yes i know with minor mods it can on the cherokee too)

The Wrangler is nice, but the Cherokee can hold more gear. Since most of my hobbies are gear intensive, that is the way to go for me.

Well, this being a Cherokee forum, it's a pretty good bet that they are interested in the Cherokee, not the Wrangler. Wranglers are good Jeeps, but the Cherokees have a much more comfortable ride and a lot more cargo space. I'd choose a Cherokee over a Wrangler any day.
