I simply stuck a wire into each of the connectors. I read what you said and am now thinking of cutting them off and see what happens.

tried cutting off the leads on the ballast but no change. Threw on a new TPS and no change. What is the part next to the Tps? I pulled that off and cleaned it and it seemed to start better. Maybe chasing another dead end. I have sunk $200 in parts into a $400 JEEP!!. I also picked up a coolant temp sensor but it isnt where the Haynes manual says it is. Any suggestions???

the ballast is called the Iac? replaced: coolant temp sensor, TPS, fuel pressure reg, fuel filter, plugs, dist cap and rotor, disconnected the battery, bypassed the ballast resistor, seafoamed, and replaced the MAP sensor. Going on Craigslist when I can take pictures. Anyone in Tucson want a project XJ???

Mine acts like this before the engine gets warm, and it takes like 4-5 seconds to start it up. then it runs well...or would run well if i had a good tranny.

just what it says....Idle Air Control, not sure if it can be cleaned, but I do not see a problem with that. you can clean the TPS, so you should be able to clean the IAC. just take care with both of these.
