Hey all, new to owning a jeep and this forum.
Picked up yesterday 91 jeep cherokee limited edition. 177k on the odo. New front brakes and calipers, shoe slap on the rear. Body isn't in the best condition and tires don't match :/ its a salvage title due to a driver side front quarter collision. Ended up catching fire. While the previous owner replaced alot of stuff, it still needs some tlc (brake booster line/valve, fluid replacement) we paid $900 for it.
My biggest question, anything I should watch out for? Test the 4wd and it all works perfectly! I just want to know of the common issues if any.
Thanks for your time and help in advance,
Jason

lol, as far as i can tell they are all the same diameter, just sticking with 2wd till taxes, then a small lift and some taller more aggressive tires. right now im in the process of ordering new injector plugs/harness/protective plastic piece, the number 1 is charred and i dont like the look. my booter valve was stuck, little carb start free'd it up good. now need a new vacuum line. it is alot better, just want to be safe
ive noticed a sound, kind of like a loose part wobbling with the rpms of the motor. just started. thinking the balancer...
fuel gauge isnt working properly, has said 1/4 tank since we got it and driven 8 miles. now the empty light clicks on and the gauge drops/rises to 1/4.
next weekend will be the wheel bearings, replace transfer and pumpkin fluids w/ heavy duty gear oil (for tractors) sticks like glue and wont break down. and hopefully ill get a cooling flush done too.
thanks for the welcome, this truck is supposed to be "ours" but i think the wife is liking it a lot more now (now that she can break better) and it is in her name (i dont have a license xD) so i think with taxes ill be looking for my own jeep..... 5spd!!!

Collision, fire? no problem, its a Jeep.
You might want to find that wobble. Sometimes you can isolate sound better with a piece of hose. Please don't put oil in your transfer case
It takes ATF. I carry one manual in the Jeep, and keep another on my office, as well as online reference material. Every man needs his Haynes
My library lets me access manuals online with my Lib. card #. Not much help though stuck in Lodi. You might want to stick with the recommended oil for the diffs. if thicker was better, that would be the recommended oil!

... Rollover, submerged in water... It's a Jeep: no problem.
X2^ on the fluids esp. the transfer case. Lubricants are specified for the various components based on rotational speeds, flow needs for bearings, and friction components involved.

Thanks for the heads up on fluids
As for the wobble, when I wws picked up at work, I couldn't hear anything outside of the jeep. But could still hear it inside... and it seems to be louder while making a left turn. And on the freeway it disappears at 40?!
Lol, I need to get a haynes manual for this. For the time being, aldata at work will have to suffice.

ill try and get some photos up later on, for $900 its in good condition!
found my rpm "loose wobble" sound, fan mount was broken and the electric fan would tilt back and rub on one of the pulleys, so a ziptie and a couple drilled holes works for now. but still the front right wheel making noise. i took a look under neath before i started work today and theres no grease, oil, fluids, etc leaking anywhere, the knuckle wasnt hot, im thinking i just gotta pack the bearing with grease as it doesnt wobble around in the air (shaking the tire around) or something to do with the caliper....
the jeep came with a frame mounted tow package, both 4pin and controller for trailer breaks, theres a gm tow package at work that was totaled that im going to moddify some to work with the front end, little chop and weld to make some type of push bumper/front tow hitch. the skids will be a nice touch.....
now, body lift or suspension? thisll still be an everyday driver, to from work, grocery getter, the usual 1 car family work out. with the occasional camping/fishing trip and some very light wheelin. maybe some snow action.
thanks for everything guys, and ill see about those pics

thanks, sorry, didnt get photos today. dont worry, theyll show up sooner or later :/
so after work i started to tweak around and diddle with the jeep searching for the wobble sound. found 2. front axle nut wasnt tight, and the rear tire had only one tight lug..... damn jackass was trying to kill my family >
if i ever see that immagrant "mechanic" again im going to slap him.
so got all the coolant at work for a flush but i still have to pay for it, so tomorrow itll be gettin it done. there is nothing but brown water..... a nice bath in coca cola/water should clean any sludge out of the system that is sitting in the block.
me and the wife are planning on picking our tree up some time in a few weeks here. were going to drive 100+ miles for a christmas tree. so my wife and 2 oldest girls (5 & 3) can see and play in the snow for the first time
ill defanatly get photos of that.
thank you guys for all this great info on this site! i cant believe theres so much, and on top of it everyone is so helpful!
so...........
can someone explain or post me a linky for the whole xj-jk-zj etc discription or kinda key to code
